A little snippet
Hi, I’m Katy. Since graduating from my degree in Journalism back in 2014, I have been creating all kinds of content for a number of well-known organisations including REED, Currys (formally Dixons Carphone), and Beardow Adams. Although I thoroughly enjoy my work as a copywriter, my dream is to one day become a best-selling author of fiction!

“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.”
Stephen King
Work life & education
At school, it was obvious to me what I enjoyed and excelled in – creative writing. I aced all my writing projects and tests and knew almost instantly it was an area I could do well in. Achieving the highest grades for essays such as re-writing the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan became the norm but I didn’t see these tests as chores. They were more fun tasks where I could let go of the reins whilst also demonstrating my talent.
When it came to choosing a university degree, this proved a little more challenging. I knew my creative writing skills were impressive, but I wanted to add to this ability by learning about a different type of content. *Newswriting enters the scene* – a style that required a little more discipline. And so, I begun my journalism degree back in 2011.
Whilst studying at Staffordshire University, I was delighted that the course allowed me to learn more than just how to write for news outlets. I was able to take more creative modules in magazine design and content creation, law, PR, column creation, Shorthand, and audio and visual journalism. My degree was extremely practical – rather than just learning about journalism, we had to become journalists! This involved running our own newsroom and getting our stories published.
Since graduating back in 2014 with a 2:1, I have been working for a number of well-known organisations in content-focused roles including recruitment specialists REED, electrical retailer and repairer Currys (Dixons Carphone), and global adhesive manufacturer Beardow Adams. The content I have produced includes the likes of:
> blog and news posts
> features
> website copy – SEO optimised
> newsletters
> emails
> print – flyers/brochures
> marketing collateral
> social media posts
> video scripts
> ghost writing
> magazine snippets
> event promo
Personal life

When my hands aren’t frantically moving over a keyboard, you can find them throwing a netball ball, swatting a shuttlecock, delving into pick and mix at the cinema, holding a book on a commute, researching their next holiday destination, or rustling up some tasty meals in the kitchen!
I’m extremely close to my family and friends, have a bit of a problematic chocolate obsession, and like to dress up my rather sassy cat, Nell, on her birthday.

The dream
What my ideal job would actually be….

Whilst I adore being a copywriter, editor, social media manager, event planner, marketer… you get the idea! The dream is to one day write my own novels. They would either be of an adventurous theme such as The Lord of the Rings or murder-mystery/’thrilleresque’ like The Girl on the Train.
And if we’re being really wild… I would write books by night and manage my own little restaurant by day. Dessert would be served at the back of the restaurant with a movie!
Recommendation
“During the time I worked with Katy she was a fantastic member of the team who always worked tirelessly to learn and improve her writing and editing skills. I found her to be polite, very responsive to feedback and willing to ask questions to better understand the project or task she was working on. She worked to a very high standard with a good eye for detail and I would have no hesitation in recommending her for future roles.
